The Laramie Lady Plainsmen basketball team is preparing for the season opening tournament this weekend.

LHS is projected to have a good season this year and improve from last year.

Last season LHS struggled against teams in conference, primarily due to having a young team.

The start of the season will test the Lady Plainsmen.

LHS has played in a couple of fall games to prepare for the season and LHS succeeded.

“We played as a team and we were making our shots,” Kayla Vasquez said.

All preseason, LHS has played well.

Laramie played Star Valley and played well, continuing to play good in preseason.

The game was tied going in to the third quarter, but Star Valley had a good game and stuck with LHS all the way through.

LHS ended up winning in a close game.

The next game LHS played Big Horn and started off good.

“We were running the floor and we were faster than them,” Vasquez said.

Laramie played well, and Big Horn stumbled down without a chance.

Their last game was against Cheyenne Central, a good team, for the championship game.

With LHS being the underdogs, LHS had to have a chip on their shoulder and prove that they wanted a championship victory.

“We played one of the best teams in the state and we didn’t back down and we just had to play harder,” Vasquez said.

The game started and LHS had a great start.

CHS was not backing down and the game was going back and forth.

After a long game, CHS pulled away and got the victory but LHS fought hard.

This upcoming tournament is hosting plenty of conference teams and include teams from all over Wyoming.

This will give LHS an opportunity to play against the teams that they will play in conference and let them know where they stand towards the beginning of the year.

Schools from every class are involved such as 2A, 3A, and even out of state teams.

Laramie plays Riverton to start things off and then a couple of other good teams around Wyoming.
