Basketball players at Laramie High School prepare to take on their upcoming season by improving their skills and by raising their hopes of winning a state championship.

LHS senior, Asa Williams, has high expectations and excitement for the season ahead. Williams is a shooting guard for the basketball team.

“I know my goal coming into the season is to hopefully win a state championship as well as to come into this season and improve,” Williams said.

Williams believes that teamwork is crucial for a successful season.

“We have the capability to win,” Williams said. “This team can go anywhere it wants to go, just as long as we continue to work together and keep pushing each other to be the very best.”

He has been preparing for this season as well as working on his plans to continue playing basketball after high school.

“Between working with a travel team, visiting colleges, and now the open gyms with the team, the off-season has been pretty busy,” Williams said. “Over the summer, I played with a travel team and this was nice to help me improve and to stay in shape. The traveling team also was big for me because it gave me the opportunity to visit some colleges I had never been to before and that allowed them to look at me as a basketball player.”

Open gym provides players the ability to practice and prepare for the season before it starts.

“Another thing helping as of lately has been the open gyms,” Williams said. “I feel they give us the ability to really show what we have worked on this summer and see where we are as a team. This also allows us to build up a chemistry together.”

LHS senior, Chad Browning, is a point guard for the team. Browning hopes that the team will take home a state championship title this year.

“My goals for this team are like most others that play, and that’s to win state,” Browning said. “I’m especially excited for this season because we only had two seniors graduate last year. That means that a lot of us have had varsity experience.”

Browning is dedicated to his team and has been working to improve his performance for the upcoming season.

“I’ve been working hard this off-season to make this season the best it can be,” Browning said. “I’ve been in the weight room getting stronger and the open gyms have helped a bit. They allow us to get into a rhythm as a team before the season and it helps me a lot.”
